Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Alternative Eligibility Ends December 31, 2010
Effective January 1, 2011, ANCC will discontinue its Alternate Eligibility option for the ANCC Gerontological Nurse Practitioner certification. Presently, ANCC offers alternate eligibility criteria for board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioners, Adult Nurse Practitioners, and Family Nurse Practitioners to validate additional expertise in advanced gerontological nursing.

Individuals who wish to apply for ANCC Gerontological Nurse Practitioner certification using alternate eligibility must submit an application by December 31, 2010. Applications seeking certification through alternate eligibility that are received after December 31, 2010 will not be processed. The application can be found at: www.nursecredentialing.org/Applications.aspx.

Certification by Reciprocity Ends December 31, 2010
Effective January 1, 2011, ANCC certification by reciprocity will no longer be available. Presently, ANCC offers certification through reciprocity for individuals certified by other certifying organizations in the following areas: Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Case Management Nurse, Medical-Surgical Nurse, and Pediatric Nurse.

Nurses currently certified by another organization who wish to obtain ANCC certification by reciprocity must submit an application by December 31, 2010. Applications received after December 31, 2010 will not be processed. The application can be found at: www.nursecredentialing.org/Applications.aspx.

Initial Certification Application
This application is a typeable PDF. Applicants have the option of saving the application to their own computer, typing in all of the required information, then printing the application, signing where appropriate, and mailing it. Alternately, all applications may be printed out and then filled in by hand in blue or black ink before mailing.

This exam is a computer-based test. This means you can apply all year and test during a 90-day window at a time and location convenient to you. Applications for this certification will be accepted at any time.

Renewal Application
Certifications must be renewed every 5 years. Renewal applications are due at least 3 months before your certification expiration date.
